Job Description

Education:
BA or BS in the following: Graphic/Visual Arts, Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, Information Sciences, Marketing, Industrial Design, Fine Arts, or a related area.
May substitute experience if lack formal design education.

Knowledge:
English: intermediate or better;
understanding of basic design principles (Gestalt);
understanding of usability principles;
current knowledge of best practices in design of interactive tools
interest in user-centered interface design practices, information visualization, and similar topics is desirable

Skills:
strong knowledge of Photoshop
knowledge of Visio, Axure RP pro or a similar diagramming/prototyping tool is a plus;

Personal qualities:
be organized and attentive to detail;
have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and be able to express ideas clearly;
be able to accept requirements from a diverse set of sources and come up with a well-researched, thought out solution;

Experience:
designing user interfaces for interactive products (preferably web/online)
writing documentation for interactive products (web sites, software, etc.) is a plus;

Job duties:
provide creative input/ideas about functionality and implementation of online services;
prepare detailed screen wireframes;
document functionality and appearance of screens;
research the web for existing approaches to design problems;
conduct usability testing studies, analyze findings, prepare reports, present results
carry out other user-centered design research (card sorting, surveys, etc.)
